Improving Education and Acesss to Labor Markets in San Salvador

salvadorRecently, we took a special trip to the Montemira School in San Salvador, El Salvador, one of the many project sites that American Initiatives currently supports.

Here, in a country of strong social contrast and deep poverty in many areas, Montemira has become a godsend for girls who have a burning desire to learn and change the course of their lives to engender a better future. Its community of instructors, readily available to teach, has an enormous impact on both the personal and work lives of these young women and helps them to achieve their potential.

We are thrilled to report that our fundraising efforts, in conjunction with the support of the Nando Peretti Foundation, have allowed us to grant the Montemira School with $39,836 in scholarships. There are now 12 first-year students enrolled in the program, each of whom have expressed their gratitude to have this opportunity. Our hope is to continue providing this much needed scholarships next year.

For more information about how we are supporting the Montemira School, see our Projects page.
